Sapa Homestay Adventure Tours Day 1: The night train to Lao Cai station
Sapa Homestay Adventure Tours

Sapa Homestay Adventure Tours
Activities:

20.30pm – TrekkingSapa’s tour guide come to pick you up from your hotel then transfer to Ha Noi Railway Station and catch the night train to Lao Cai (overnight on the train, the cabin with 4 berths, soft sleeper and air-conditioning). Arrive Lao Cai 5:30 or 6:00am.

Sapa is the focal point for mountain travel in Vietnam, and is a riot of colour and atmosphere as people from the myriad ethnic minorities of the hills gather in the markets.

The ‘Flower Hmong’ wear rainbow-coloured smocks, while the Red Dao’s traditional costume is a more muted indigo but topped off with a bright red headdress. When all of the mountain people congregate, the result is a feast for the eyes and the senses.

*** It takes about 9 hours to go from Hanoi to Sapa by night train.

Sapa Homestay Adventure Tours
Activities:

The train arrives at around 6:00 am. Look for the “Trekking Sapa’s Logo & Your Name” sign when you exit the train station, as our guide will pick you up there and transfer to the former hill station of Sapa. In the terraced hills and mountains of this area, the expansive green landscape is enlivened by the colors of its hill tribe population – flashes of shining silver jewelry from the necks and wrists of indigo-clad H’mong and the scarlet hues of the turbans worn by the Red Dao can be seen. It is here you will find hands stained with color from fabric dyes and shades of blue, red and green intricately embroidered and stitched into jackets, waistcoats, pants, skirts, caps, purses and leggings.

After having breakfast at local restaurant, a short rest and some last preparations before our Sapa trip The first part is on the road but we soon turn to the right and walk on a small path down the valley to the Muong Hoa River along Y Linh Ho valley and from here lead to the Black H’mong in Lao Chai village. Black H’mong is one of the biggest minority groups in the Sapa area. They are proud of their culture and keep their traditions and way of living. They have their own language and wear traditional indigio blue clothing.

Continue to Ta Van village (1.200 m) to visit Zay people. Zay is a fairly small minority group of about 38.000 people who live mainly in the mountains in Northwest Vietnam . The development has meant that some of their old customs have been lost but many women still wear traditional shirts with a purple, blue or green color. Check in the room then you have 1 hour party for dinner ( listening to music, enjoy a little wine & soft drinks).

With ‘Homestay’ experience, your overnight accommodation is provided by a local family in their traditional house-on-silts. There are some private rooms on the first floor for priavte tour and you will have toilet or bathroom sharing. The sleeping corner is set up with a single mattress (thin, but adequate), blankets (ditto), pillow and mosquito net. The restroom is at standard and a few steps from the main house.

Following a breakfast with local people, enjoy marvel at the breathtaking scenery morning, then leave the village to continue to visit Red Dao people at Giang Ta Chai where we also have short break near by a hanging brigde made from cane and a beautiful waterfall. The Red Dao women have very colorful red embroidery and coins on their clothing. On their head they wear a red scarf. Some of the women have shaved off their eyebrows because of a nice Red Zao Legend.

We continue along small paths in the rice fields, cross the Muong Hoa River and trek up to Su pan village where you will meet the jeep and transfer back to Sapa. The rest of day free time for exploring local market and Sapa twon. Late afternoon, the car will pick you up for the night train back to Hanoi. "Sensational Sappa"

De La Baie d’Halong aux Temples d’Angkor , December 2012

Reviewed On: Apr 11, 2019

Sappa is a must. An Incomparable cultural experience with the added bonus of incredible views of the rice paddies. Our guide Mu was so fantastic, her English was incredible which meant that we were really able to discuss anything for example how tourism has made an impact to the area, we even discussed mortgages and house prices! As she was local she knew lots of people and was able to show us things that I can't imagine everyone gets to see, for example she took us into a traditional home where a family were preparing dinner with no electricity. We did the harder route which was quite slippery but was good fun! for October definitely rent wellies in Sapa town. They were surprisingly comfortable! Hong (from trekking Sapa.com) was amazing. After enquiring on the phone (through our hotel) within minutes he had sent a full itinerary and a payment link. Which was handy because I didn't often have access to wifi. He walked us onto the right coach in Hanoi and even lent us umbrellas for the short walk to the train which was a nice touch. We had some problems with the train due to a landslide but Hong called ahead to warn us and explain everything. Being well informed made us feel safe, a luxury I don't think everyone got. We bumped into to people who had no idea about the landslide and how it was going to affect their journey and people that had tried to go to Sappa and do it all themselves. I imagine they paid a bit less than us but I felt they were going to miss out on so much. In fact they had already had to fork out lots of money on buying equipment because they didn't have a guide to tell them they could rent it for just £1 or £2. I would 100% recommend this company for your Sapa trek! Ms.Hannah Bosley-United Kingdom -07568331562

She spoke excellent english and told us a lot about local customs. She was kind and caring and had a great sense of humor. She took us on a trek through small villages, up and down mountains where we could get a sense about daily life. We had breathtaking views, and met several children along the way that were so happy to receive the small lollypops I had bought in Sapa the day before. The experience was truly eye opening for our group and definitively they don't see the world the same way after having shared those precious moments with the local house. We saw beautiful landscapes also but we will really cherrish the moments spent with Sinh. Those 2 days were a bubble of authenticity that we truly recommend. We are so glad decided to go up to Sapa to see how the Hmong tribes live and to trek through their villages in the rice paddy fields in the spectacular valleys of the area, the people are friendly and a have a reasonably good command of English although they do pester you to buy their wares so be careful you are not "taken in" by their friendliness, they claim the souvenirs they are selling are handmade but in actual fact most of it comes from over the border in China factories. Eating out is not a problem, there are some good restaurants to be had at reasonable prices with an array of different cuisines. We had a wonderful guide that I could recommend,it was also great to get away to take in the fresh air after the pollution in Hanoi, well worth the trip in the overnight train!!

You'll definitely need a guide to bring you around trekking in Sapa. I booked a private tour and I had the ease of going at my own pace with just my guide. It's more pricey but you wouldn't have to wait for others or worry about catching up with the rest of the group. I was lucky to be there during good weather and the weather and view was perfect! Trekking shoes are a must as I wore my trainers and they are so not helpful in mud and slippery slopes. I loved the homestay with the ethnic minority family. Definitely a must to try once. The trek routes vary and if you're young and fit-ish you'll be treated to the harder terrains as the guide will gleefully try to make you suffer

We had an absolute amazing trip with TrekkingSapa.com, even better as expected. From the first contact until end of the trip the owners took really good care of our needs. They organized the transport from Lao Cai to Sapa for us and we met them personally in a nice café – who needs a loveless office? After a short instruction we started our remarkable hiking adventure together with our Black H’Mong guide. She was very open and enjoyed to tell about her interesting culture. During the trip she introduced us to many members of her family, we felt very welcome all the time. In addition, we were able to enjoy her cooking skills. The track were definitely far away from the standard routes in Sapa, we didn’t saw any other tourist for almost the complete time. On top there is to say that you don’t give your money to a profit orientated organization, TrekkingSapa.com endeavors to give something back by supporting the local tribes. Ms.Kacy - US

"Delicious spicy grilled meat in Sapa"

Thanks to the helpful reviews on TripAdvisor, I confidentially booked through trekkingsapa.com for a tour to Sapa, a place I’ve never been to before. I thought to myself that the trekking tour to highland Sapa in Vietnam would be an adventurous one. But it turned out to be so different. We had taxi and bus transports between the areas and just only walked when we arrived at some area. This is quite an amazing place in a hot country like Vietnam. The air is cold with lots of impressive sights. Never in my life have I seen so many paddy fields from the feet to the top of mountains in Sapa. Going up and downhill, another breathtaking scene appears after every turn. The most amazing thing I’d love to recommend here is the spicy grilled food. Meat of all kind put on skewers for your choice. They also have grilled eggs but I don’t like it. It costs me only 200,000 VND (around $10) for 20 skewers of meat. My friend Jason and I had a great dinner in the breezy market with meat skewers and rice in bamboo along with local wine. If you visit Vietnam, you shouldn’t miss Sapa. And if you make a trekking tour on Sapa, you shouldn’t miss Sapa’s meat skewers, heh heh heh.

A smile played on his face all the time. Don’t how he manages to remember so many funny jokes and stories. We kept laughing nonstop. Trekking never felt tiring. Trekkingsapa Tour Company must be appreciated for their nice services. We clicked hundreds of photos, that included our group photos, mountains, terraced farming lands, beautiful views and some individual picture local people also. Highly recommended tour.

The day trips were nice, lots of rice fields to discover and the mountain views are great. We did a home stay through this organization as well and that was maybe the most memorable part of our holiday. I returned from my recent holiday with a completely different understanding of Vietnam. I had no idea that the country was so beautiful, so varied and so exciting. The idea of staying in an ethnic hill tribe village, with people who still live a life, unchanged for centuries, really appealed to me. I am so glad I experienced it. It was a truly wonderful thing to see and do. Going back to my job in the city, was more than a little strange and I as I sat on the morning commuter train, it felt more than a little odd, to be back home. The group I was with were a mixed bunch and everyone got on really well. We visited the villages of Ta Van and Giang Ta Chai; the women here wore incredibly beautiful, traditional dresses. The family we stayed with were so sweet and cooked us a lovely evening meal. They sat and sang songs afterwords, I wish I could have joined in, but singing is not my strong point. I do though, have photographs that I will cherish forever. This holiday could well have changed me. I strongly recommend it to anyone.

Has booked the 3N2D Homestay Trekking tour and it has been the best decision made! Mr. Hong has been very prompt with his reply and giving us tons of great information before the trip. Pick up was great! The Night Train was awesome and clean! What made the tour amazing was also our tour guide Ms. Pang Thao! She has been really amazing. Her knowledge on the cultures, plants, trees and many other has been so insightful! Highly recommended tour! Ashley –British

Highlight of our Vietnam Trip!We had an amazing experience with Trekking Sapa, and with our most lovely, impressive guide , our young guide from the Black Hmong tribe. I cannot recommend TREKKING SAPA and the traditional homestay (2 days/1 night) highly enough! We did this trip with our teenagers, who agreed that this was a not-to-miss experience. Our experience was great for all the reasons that you'd want when traveling: helpful, open and timely communication, a good price, absolutely great tour guides, an enriching experience with wonderful scenery and marvelous social interactions, and I could go on. But what made the experience particularly great was the fact Trekking Sapa is a social enterprise with a social mission that has a positive impact. One of our favorite parts of the tour was speaking to our guide Sing. He was very open about speaking about her life and culture, and answered any questions we had. We then stayed a night in a homestay with a local family and other travelers. Here there was a great atmosphere as we had a big dinner together and sat around an open fire chatting. Overall it was a great experience and one I would greatly recommend. Andrew -United Kingdom

On our recent trip to SaPa I had booked a 2 days trek with TrekkingSapa. Phinh our guide for the day came and met us at our hotel. Phinh was such a great guide. I cannot reccommend TrekkingSapa and especially Phinh highly enough. It really was a great day. Ms.Victoria Nixon – Canada

We did a 2 day 1 night trek with TrekkingSapa who arranged for Phinh, a local lady from the Hmong tribe to be our tour guide and it was at Phinhs house that we stayed for the night. I cannot speak highly enough of Phinh who spoke fantastic English and looked after us so well. She made us feel so relaxed and made us laugh from start to finish. We felt we really had an insight in to Phinhs life at the end having stopped at her uncles for lunch on the trek, meeting Phinhs husband and children at her home and meeting her brother and sister who chatted and drank rice wine with us in the evening. What a lovely family. Michael & Lynne McKenzie

We are 6 persons from Malaysia, we just spent 2 days in our holiday in Vietnam with Sinh to get immersed in his culture, way of living. It was an amazing experience, Sinh is full of energy and can talk for ever about the culture, he is so proud to be a black hmong. We were impressed by him. The experience was truly eye opening for our group and definitively they don't see the world the same way after having shared those precious moments with the local house. We saw beautiful landscapes also but we will really cherrish the moments spent with Sinh. Those 2 days were a bubble of authenticity that we truly recommend. The way TrekkingSapa supports the Black Hmong community is very respectful and we were really grateful to have met them. Ms.Yen Nee Go – Malaysia

We (a group of 6 recent college grads) did the H'Mong homestay trek after a friend recommended the company. The trip was incredible--we learned a lot from our guide about the H'mong culture, saw breathtaking views of mountains shaped by rice terraces, and got to spend the night with an incredibly welcoming family. The trek was long but not strenuous. Experiences like this one are the real reason to get out and see the world. Cyrielle- France

Both were extremely friendly and helpful. The homestay really allowed us to look into the lives of the black Hmong, which was incredibly interesting! In the middle of nature surrounded by animals, drinking rice wine and enjoying a delicious dinner. It was perfect. Thank you MrDong and Mr Hong! TrekkingSapa.com is a truely involved initiative that works exclusively with and for local ethnies. We spent a wonderfully rich 2 days 1 night with Pang in her family villages (Black Hmong). It can be hot during the trek! Still cold at night though but you are furnished with warm blankets and the evening is spent around the fireplace. Our encounter with Pang was so humanly rich and strongly true. She speaks english very well and is very funny and sharing. Thank you so much again to you, Mr Hong from TrekkingSapa.com, Pang and her family too!

I had never done a trekking trip before but when a trip to Sapa was planned from college I happily agreed to be a part of it. We were in a group of 26 students with two professors, in all we were 28 and yes, on the way we were 29 including our funny tour guide. He was a amazing person.

We arrived in Sapa from Hanoi by night train and were picked up from the station. Our guide was really friendly and helpful and had very good English.

We organised a 2 days 3 nights trek through the valley at the TrekkingSapa.com. Our guide Ms Pang was fantastic - she lives in the valley and had heaps of knowledge and stories to share with us. The walk through the valley villages was spectacular - being amongst the endless rice paddies and local life was incredible. The tour included a homemade lunch in one of the villages (the spring rolls were the best we had in all of vietnam!). Staying at homestay was fantastic. The local people were friendly. It was the most amazing experience - we all bonded over the shared giggles at each of our slips and slides through the mud, and when we reached the end we all felt a great sense of accomplishment.Extremely beautiful when the terrace rice field turned golden! We highly recommend Trekking Sapa to every one.

I and my son have booked the Sapa Tour with a guide from Trekkingsapa Company and it was a great experience. Our guide was fun and carried a really cute baby. You really learn things about the local community and go to places that you would probably not find on your own. We chose a 2days tour and staying at homestay. The homestay was comfortable, the local people was really friendly. We enjoyed our wonderful trip in Sapa to much. We would recommend Trekking Sapa tour to everyone. Thanks Gary
