One of the most beautiful scenery that any tourists expect to once experience in their Sapa tours is admiring the golden rice fields. However, Sapa is not the only place that you can contemplate the golden rice fields, some destinations that I’ll tell you below are also can’t be missed places for a tour of watching the golden rice fields in the Northern Vietnam.
The rice fields in Y Ty, Muong Hum of Lao Cai will be ripe in early September, ones in Mu Cang Chai will be ripen in the mid-September, and ones in Hoang Su Phi will be ripe after October.
1. Muong Hum, Sang Ma Sao (Lao Cai)
Sang Ma Sao is a highland ward in Bat Xat commune, Lao Cai province, about 20 km from Muong Hum. In the season of rice harvesting, Sang Ma Sao looks very attractive with a valley of terraced rice fields, like a painting of Nature that is decorated with some Mong’s and Dao’s houses scattered in the valley.

The best time to visit Sang Ma Sao is at the beginning of September, because the rice fields will be ripe around September 5th. From Sapa, the distance to this place is 70 km long, from O Quy Ho Pass, follow the Ban Khoang Road, passing Ta Giang Phinh valley and you will approach to Muong Hum Gate
2. Y Ty, A Lu (Bat Xat – Lao Cai)
Y Ty is located in the western part of Bat Xat district, Lao Cai province, about 100km from Lao Cai city. Y Ty attracts tourists by the clouds, the mountains, the color of the jungle, the terraced rice fields on A Lu slope, or the houses of the Ha Nhi ethnic minority people in Lao Chai 1 and Lao Chai 2 villages.

The best time to admire the golden rice fields here is in the beginning of September, when the locals start to harvest their rice crops.
3. Cat Cat, Ta Van (Sapa, Lao Cai)
In Sapa district, some rice fields in Cat Cat and Ta Van will change its color to yellow in the middle of September. The green mountains, white clouds and golden rice fields have created a beautiful and poetic picture for the land named Sapa.

Ta Van and Ta Phin are also popular tourist destinations, therefore, you can rent motorcycles and ride from Sapa town to enjoy the golden season of rice fields in these places.
4. La Pan Chan, Mu Cang Chai (Yen Bai)

Mu Cang Chai is also a wonderful spot for people to come. When coming here in the right time, you’ll see thousands of terraced rice fields in the harvesting season, especially in La Pan Tan, Che Cu Nha and De Xu Phinh – 3 tourist attractions of this place. Harvest season in Mu Cang Chai comes later than in Lao Cai, about September 15th.
5. Tu Le (Yen Bai)

Tu Le is adjacent to Khau Pha Pass, located in Van Chan District of Yen Bai Province. From the slope overlooking on Tu Le town, you’ll see each terrace of the terraced rice field is sandwiched with the forests, terraces bending along the winding stream. The harvesting season in Tu Le is the most beautiful is in late September or early October.

6. Hoang Su Phi (Ha Giang province)
Hoang Su Phi terraced rice fields are considered to be the end for the journey of discovering the terraced rice fields in the North. The rice field system here consists of the following villages: Ban Luoc commune and San Sa Ho commune of the long-shirt Dao people and Nung people; Ban Phung village of La Chi people; Ho Thau, Nam Ty, Thong Nguyen of the Red Dao.
Hoang Su Phi, Ha Giang
The route to Hoang Su Phi is divided into two directions, from national highway 2 through Tuyen Quang to Ha Giang, or from Bac Ha (Lao Cai) through Xin Man. Hoang Su Phi rice fields usually are ripe quite late, therefore, the best time to visit this place is October 10th.
