I took an organized tour to Coc Ly, a village 70 km from Sapa, that has an interesting market (according to Lonely Planet). I wanted to see it because there are other ethnic minorities who trade goods. The only ethnic majority you really notice here is the Hmong people. Whether they are the Black Hmong, the Flower Hmong, the White Hmong, the I-don’t-know-what-else H’monh, they are everywhere. Usually selling stuff on the street.
In Sapa tours, you also see the Red Dao people, who are really friendly, not pushy like the Hmong and have the ability to learn foreign languages fast. Well, in Coc Ly you can also see the Tay and the Nung people. The market is small but interesting. You can buy meat and traditional clothes, radios, and dishes, vegetables, and knives – in short, everything. From the market, we took a nice ride on a boat to the Black H’Mong village, where we had lunch. Our guide was funny and always singing Vietnamese songs…

The train arrives at around 6:00 am. Look for the “Trekking Sapa’s Logo & Your Name” sign when you exit the train station ,the guide pick you up and transfer to Coc Ly Market is a very small market where you will get the unique opportunity to meet several ethnic minorities such as the Flower H’mong, Black Dao, Phu La, Nung and Tay.
You will see the ethnic people gather to buy and sell goods, dine and drink, or just wander to enjoy the ambience of the montagnard market by the Chay River.
After spending around 2hours by car. Arrive the Coc Ly market; join local ethnic peoples of the morning to enjoy the exciting atmosphere as well as activities of this weekly market. Have lunch at local restaurant. Continue with the boat trip on Chay River. Enjoy scenic view from river and trek to Dzao, Tay minority villages. On the way visit Vietnam – China International Border Gade. Return back to Sapa town for check in hotel.You will have dinner at a local restaurant and overnight in Sapa town. Approx: 6 km of trekking

After having breakfast and check out hotel, a short rest and some last preparations before our Sapa trip.The first part is on the road but we soon turn to the right and walk on a small path down the valley to the Muong Hoa River along Y Linh Ho valley and from here lead to the Black H’mong in Lao Chai village. Black H’mong is one of the biggest minority groups in the Sapa area. They are proud of their culture and keep their traditions and way of living. They have their own language and wear traditional indigio blue clothing.
Continue to Ta Van village (1.200 m) to visit Zay people. Zay is a fairly small minority group of about 38.000 people who live mainly in the mountains in Northwest Vietnam . The development has meant that some of their old customs have been lost but many women still wear traditional shirts with a purple, blue or green color. Check in the room then you have 1 hour party for dinner ( listening to music, enjoy a little wine & soft drinks).

Following a breakfast with local people, enjoy marvel at the breathtaking scenery morning, then leave the village to continue to visit Red Dao people at Giang Ta Chai where we also have short break near by a hanging brigde made from cane and a beautiful waterfall. The Red Dao women have very colorful red embroidery and coins on their clothing. On their head they wear a red scarf. Some of the women have shaved off their eyebrows because of a nice Red Zao Legend.
We continue along small paths in the rice fields, cross the Muong Hoa River and trek up to Su pan village where you will meet the jeep and transfer back to Sapa. The rest of day free time for exploring local market and Sapa twon. Late afternoon, the car will pick you up for the night train back to Hanoi. Arrive at Lao Cai train station and take the night train back to Hanoi. Approx: 10 km of trekking
